Duties of a nursing assistant consists of many things that are sometimes quite tiring, but people often do not even say thank you for what has been done. Therefore, those who are working as an assistant in nursing needs to do a lot of exercises with full dedication and a sincere intention to help others. Thus, you can better enjoy and take pride in your work as an assistant in nursing plus get may get rid of job burnout.
Duties of a nursing assistant are a valuable service to the patients and of course for the medical profession as a whole. They are responsible for many jobs that could be considered not easy such as communicating with the patient or the patient’s family and other medical staff, assist the patient’s basic needs (eating, bathing, dressing), taking vital signs of patients, manage patient meal consumption, helping the movement of patients, provide emotional support to patients, and others.

Communicating with patients
One of the duties of a nursing assistant that mostly fundamental is to communicate with the patient or the patient’s family and other medical staff. Therefore, a nursing assistant is required to have good communication skills. It is important that they are able to respond and communicate effectively with various types of individuals.
Assist the basic needs of patients
Helping the patient’s basic needs such as eating, bathing and dressing well is also the main work of an assistant in nursing. In fact, these jobs basically only the tip of the iceberg when compared to other various duties. And the special job as an assistant in nursing would depend on the medical facility where they work.
All of this basic work should be done according to the needs of patients, such as bathing the patient. A nursing assistant needs to see whether such patients can take a shower in the bathroom or in bed. Similarly for the cleanliness of the patient, such as combing hair, brushing teeth, brushing teeth, putting on makeup, to clean dentures.
Taking vital signs of patients
Another daily work that became the responsibility of a nursing assistant is taking the patient’s vital signs. This includes taking patients temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure. And all critical information should be recorded on patient charts to be reviewed by the nursing staff and other medical professionals.
Manage patient food consumption
In addition to taking vital signs of patients, a nursing assistant must also manage the type of food and beverages consumed by each patient, including the amount and written up on patient charts. Some patients may need to take some extra vitamins and nutritional supplements.
Assist the movement of patients
Depending on the patient’s medical condition being treated, then a nursing assistant is also responsible for helping the movement of patients such as transporting patients to a wheelchair, bring the patient into the dining room, changing beds, cleaning materials or other dirty if it is found in patients.
It is important for a nursing assistant to document the patient’s behavior and tell the nurse on duty if the changes are not usual.
Provide emotional support
Duties of a nursing assistant are also covers things that are non-technical such as providing emotional support to patients and their families. This can help patients feel comfortable with their surroundings, and foster a spirit to be healed.
Duties of a nursing assistant are not easy, though most of us are familiar with Nursing Assistants. Therefore, has a tremendous work ethic is the most important matter.
